I have loved vintage since I was a teenager. A hobby introduced to me by my grandmother, we would scour markets and charity shops on the weekends together: well made wool coats from the 60s for my grandfather, vintage fur jackets and glomesh purses my grandmother collected, silverware and crystal platters… the list goes on.
It’s a memory I hold close to my heart, and one of the key inspirations behind starting MAISON ESSENTIELE. Fast forward five years, vintage is still one of my favourite past times and key sources of inspiration. Here are some pieces that are currently on my saved curation of vintage finds.
PSA: This series will soon be exclusively for paid subscribers (for AUD$5 per month, less than a coffee and so very much appreciated to support my work), but I wanted to give everyone a sneak peak into what you can expect. Vintage shopping can be overwhelming, and I spend hours curating these finds, so you don’t have to.
Four words (if ‘and’ doesn’t count): square toe & kitten heel. Only worn once but $1000 off the RRP. Winning.
The 2014 City Bag has made a come back, and with good reason. Edgy but cute, and big enough to fit a laptop and all your extras. I love in the silver as a fun but still tonal-ish piece.
Vintage Burberry Blue Label Classic Nova Check Babydoll Tank Top. Very clueless/y2k without feeling like you’re 15 shopping at Supre and Dotti again. Also under AUD$150. I’d wear with a white denim jort.
FENDI Mia Handbag (Under $800!)
I love a logo bag that isn’t a regular for the brand, like a textured CHANEL wristlet or belt bag rather than the traditional Boy or Wallet on Chain. The strap detailing and fun shape of this Fendi is a good example.
STAND STUDIO Animal Print Trench Coat
Anything animal print will always have my heart. This jacket would be easy to style with neutrals to elevate your look, plus, the vinyl-like material looks like it would repel light rain.
The button-back vintage aesthetic has drawn me in of late, and these feel like a great way to dip your toe in without breaking the bank.
Is it just me that feels like when I wear normal sunglasses I have to constantly take them on and off to see because they are too dark? I love a yellow lens because I can still give eye contact when talking to people and don’t feel the need to take on and off in the shade. These would go with, well, pretty much everything.
